2017 Honda Civic Hatchback makes world debut
Honda will indeed be rolling out a hatchback variant of the all-new Civic after the automaker recently revealed the production version of the C-segment car.
First unveiled as a prototype during the 2016 New York International Auto Show, the new Civic Hatchback retains most of the styling cues of the sedan but does away with the bodykit, overly-large wheels and green accents. Still, the hatchback variants gets its own set of multi-spoke alloys.
Towards the back, the hatchback gets a unique door along with a large integrated spoiler. The C-shaped taillights have been carried over while the non-functional honeycomb air vents were lifted straight from the prototype version.
A total of five trim levels will be available in the US market, namely: LX, Sport EX, EX, EX-L and Sport Touring which is the top-of-the-line variant that gets the dual-center mounted exhausts pipes.
For the US market, the Civic Hatchback's base engine is the 2.0-liter inline-four which produces 153 and 190 Nm of torque. At the top of the heap is the 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four with i-VTEC that cranks out 173 PS and 220 Nm of torque. The Sport Touring Model is powered by the 1.5-liter turbo but gets a slight increase in power rated at 180 PS.
There is no word whether the Philippine market will have the Civic Hatchback though the prototype version of the car recently made its ASEAN debut at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
