The New-generation Kia Rio makes debut in Paris Motor Show 2016
Kia's new-generation contender in the B-section has just been unveiled at thist year's Paris Motor Show. As per the automaker, their best-selling model to date has been updated to cater to a more car buyers. What's more, the 2017 Rio will likewise convey lower running costs, practicality and significantly more security tech.
Beginning with the outside, the 2017 Rio mixes smooth curves and sharp lines. Despite the sleeker look, it still bears the well known shape of the previous model. A tweaked tiger-nose grill, more honed looking headlights and a fuller front bumper were also applied on the new Rio.
Around the back, new LED taillights, rear end mounted spoiler and shapely back spoiler give the 2017 Rio a decent wrap up. Finishing everything is the new arrangement of seven-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires.
Inside, Kia claimed it has improved legroom thanks to a 10mm wheelbase increase and a cargo space of 325 liters. The automaker also added that it will get the latest in in-car tech. Some of which will include: Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 5-inch touchscreen display, satellite navigation, Kia Connected Services and six-speaker audio system as such.
In terms of upholstery, cloth and leather can be specified for the 2017 Rio. Available trim colors include black and gray. There is also a 'Red Pack' trim which blankets the cabin in red-black leather.
For 2017, the Rio gets a new range of engines, including a new turbocharged motor. Non-turbo models can be equipped with either a 1.25- or 1.4-liter inline-four. The former puts out 84 PS and 122 Nm of torque while the latter is rated at 100 PS and 132 Nm of torque.
At the top of the gasoline-range is a 1.0-liter T-GDI inline-three. Derived from the Cee'd hatchback, the engine is available in two output ratings, 100 PS and 119 PS.
Those that prefer a diesel can also go for a 1.4-liter CRDi. Depending on the variant, the engine can generate either 70 PS or 90 PS.
The new Rio will be built at Kia's Sohari plant in Korea while global sales of the new-generation hatchback will begin during the first quarter of 2017.
